So, I’m getting out of my car this morning going into work in Edinboro, and I’m hearing all kinds of sirens and horns in the distance. I’m thinking “that must be some fire.” Upon entering work I quickly find out the conflagration was from the fans and community in support of the General McLane Lancer football team who were leaving for the state championship game. The folks in Edinboro and McKean absolutely love their Lancers and it shows all over the area. There are marquee signs of support, red and white ribbons and balloons, and banners throughout town. It’s a new experience for all involved, since this is the first time a GM football team has gone all the way to states. Everything will be brand new for the coaches, players and fans–and they should have a blast.
Friday night’s game is also a first for my buddies at 106.3 WCTL. Their broadcast team of Ron Raymond, David Harms, and Adam Q. Frase take their first trip to Hershey after well over a decade of covering Erie County teams. It’s a thrill to get a chance at the trip and there are lots of details and logistics to execute.
For me I’ll be listening to the game on the radio and cheering on Coach Wells’ team. And I’ll proudly smile as Mr. Raymond and Co. passionately execute their broadcast duties for the hundreds of fans here in NWPA.
My prediction for the score: GM 17, Pottsville 10
Go Lancers!
